[HMG] – In news that is leaving theater fans nationwide almost limp with desire it has been announced that HBO’s forthcoming Broadway-themed pilot, ‘The Miraculous Year’ has scored another big catch – Susan Sarandon.
The 63-year old, who won an Oscar for her role as Sister Prejean, opposite Sean Penn in 1995’s ‘Dead Man Walking’ has been cast as ‘Patty Atwood,’ the director and choreographer of the play at the heart of the show.
Co-Produced by Tony winner, John Logan and Kathryn Bigelow, who this year became the first female director to be awarded an Oscar the show tells the story of a self-destructive composer [played by Broadway veteran, Norbert Leo Butz] who valiantly tries to juggle his difficult new show and a wildly dysfunctional New York family.
Among the rest of the cast so-far confirmed are ‘Frost/Nixon’s Frank Langella, Linus Roache [Law & Order,] Patti LuPone as a Broadway wannabe, and Lee Pace [Pushing Daisies] also has a significant role.
And this is not Susan’s first flirtation with cable – In April she also appeared on the channel with Al Pacino as Dr. Jack Kevorkian in the mini-series ‘You Don’t Know Jack,’ for which she landed an Emmy.
The EW scribes report there is no news on an air-date as yet, but production begins on the pilot for ‘Miraculous…’ in New York today and Kathryn is set to direct…
